Alfonso XIII was born in May 1886. He became King of Spain at the age of 16, following the death of his father, Alfonso XII. His reign lasted for 44 years, during which time Spain underwent significant political and social changes. Alfonso XIII abdicated in 1931, after the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic. He died in exile in Rome in 1941.
