Charles X acceded to the French throne in 1824. He was the second of the Bourbons to be restored to the throne of France after the fall of Napoleon I. He was a conservative monarch and his policies were unpopular with the liberals and republicans in France. In 1830, he was overthrown in the July Revolution and Louis Philippe was declared king.
