Marin Mersenne (28 September 1588 – 1 September 1648) was a French polymath active as a philosopher, mathematician, theologian, physicist, astronomer, and music theorist. He corresponded with and influenced many of the leading intellectuals of his time, including Descartes, Galileo, and Hobbes. He also wrote on numerous topics, including optics, music, and theology.
