Mark Spitz is an American former competition swimmer who won a record seven gold medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics. He was the first swimmer to win more than four gold medals at a single Olympic Games. Spitz also won eight NCAA titles, four in the 100-yard freestyle, one in the 200-yard freestyle, two in the 100-yard butterfly, and one in the 200-yard butterfly.
