Charles II was the king of England, Scotland, and Ireland from 1660 to 1685. He was the son of Charles I, who was executed in 1649 during the English Civil War. Charles II was raised as a Roman Catholic, but he converted to Anglicanism in order to be allowed to ascend to the throne. He raised his daughters Mary II and Anne as Anglicans as well.
