Answer

Mary II, daughter of James II and Anne Hyde, was the heir presumptive to the throne after the death of Charles II. She was married to William of Orange, who was a Protestant. After the death of Charles II, James II ascended to the throne, but was deposed in the Glorious Revolution of 1688. William and Mary then became joint sovereigns of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
