Before becoming a U.S. senator, Kevin Cramer served in the U.S. House of Representatives for North Dakota's at-large congressional district. He was first elected to the House in 2012 and served until 2019, when he was elected to the Senate. Cramer is a member of the Republican Party and has served as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources since 2021.
