Albert first played for Hungary's national team in 1959. He was a talented forward who scored 31 goals in 75 appearances for his country. Albert was a member of the Hungarian team that won the gold medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics and the bronze medal at the 1966 FIFA World Cup. He was also named European Footballer of the Year in 1967.
