In January 2004, Gary McAllister resigned as player-manager of Coventry City. He had been appointed as player-manager in December 2002, and had led the club to promotion to the Premier League in the 2002–03 season. However, the club struggled in the Premier League, and McAllister resigned after a 2–0 defeat to Everton. He was replaced by Micky Adams.
