Answer
Found guilty in the denazification trials, Franz von Papen received a relatively lenient sentence due to his advanced age and health. He was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment but served only two, from which he was released in 1949. While he was never fully exonerated, he successfully pursued the return of his property, eventually reemerging in West German politics as an advisor to Konrad Adenauer.
