Mauno Koivisto started his presidency in 1982. He was the seventh president of Finland, and served from 1982 to 1994. Koivisto was a member of the Social Democratic Party, and was a key figure in the negotiations that led to the end of the Cold War. He was also a strong supporter of European integration.
