Maurice Yaméogo imposed a One Party System on Upper Volta. Yaméogo established a single-party state called the Convention Démocratique Voltaique (CDV), which he dominated and used to suppress opposition. He also maintained close ties with the French government and allowed them to retain influence in Upper Volta.
