Allectus succeeded Carausius as the usurper of Roman Britain in 293. Carausius was killed by his own men, who then installed Allectus as emperor. Constantius I, the Roman emperor, campaigned against Allectus in 296, and defeated him in battle. Constantius then became the ruler of Britain.
