Answer
Constantius Chlorus fought back against Carausius’ successor, Allectus, while Maximian held the Rhine frontier. After the assassination of Carausius, Allectus took control of the Roman province of Britain and ruled as emperor from 293 to 296. Constantius was appointed to counter Allectus by the co-emperors Diocletian and Maximian, who were engaged in a civil war with the usurper Maxentius.
