Two women, including Mette Frederiksen, have held the office of Prime Minister in Denmark. The first was Helle Thorning-Schmidt, who served from 2011 to 2015. She was the first woman to hold the office in Denmark, and was also the first female head of government in the Nordic countries. Frederiksen became Prime Minister in 2019, and is the second woman to hold the office.
