Michael D. Higgins is the ninth and current President of Ireland. He was elected to his first term on 27 October 2011 and re-elected for a second term on 26 October 2018. Higgins is a member of the Labour Party and was previously a senator, a Teachta Dála (TD), a government minister and a Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister).
