In 2018, Michael D. Higgins ran for and was re-elected as the President of Ireland. He had previously served as President from 2011 to 2018. Higgins is a member of the Labour Party and has been a politician since the 1960s. He has also served as a member of the Irish Parliament and as Minister for Foreign Affairs.
