Ion Antonescu was the Prime Minister of Romania from 1940 to 1944, during World War II. He was a fascist dictator who aligned Romania with Nazi Germany. In August 1944, King Michael I of Romania led a coup against Antonescu and replaced him with Constantin Sănătescu. The coup was successful and Romania switched sides to the Allies.
