Michel Debré served as Prime Minister of France for three years, from 1959 to 1962. He was appointed by President Charles de Gaulle, who had just come to power after a period of political instability. Debré was a strong supporter of de Gaulle's policies, and he helped to implement the new Fifth Republic. He also played a key role in the negotiations that led to the independence of Algeria.
