Mihail Kogălniceanu was a politician, historian, diplomat, and writer from the Principality of Moldavia and later the Romanian United Principalities. He was a key figure in the Romanian Revolution of 1848, and a major influence on the development of Romanian national identity. He served as the first Prime Minister of Romania from 1863 to 1865.
