Mikhail Frunze succeeded Leon Trotsky as chairman of the Revolutionary Military Council in 1925. Trotsky had been a leading figure in the Russian Revolution and had served as chairman of the Revolutionary Military Council since 1918. However, he fell out of favor with Joseph Stalin and was eventually expelled from the Communist Party in 1927.
