Answer
Mily Balakirev was a Russian composer and pianist who was a member of The Five, a group of five Russian composers who were known for their nationalistic music. Balakirev was a mentor to many young composers, including Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Tchaikovsky was a student of Balakirev's from 1866 to 1867, and Balakirev encouraged him to write music that was inspired by Russian folk music.
