Mir Hossein Mousavi was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran from 1981 to 1989. During his tenure, he oversaw the Iran-Iraq War, and helped to negotiate the release of American hostages held by Hezbollah in Lebanon. He also played a role in the development of Iran's nuclear program. After leaving office, he became a leading figure in the opposition to the Iranian government.
