Mirosław Hermaszewski was the 89th person to reach outer space, making him the first and only Polish astronaut to travel to space. He achieved this milestone in 1978 when he became the first Polish cosmonaut to participate in a joint Soviet-Polish space mission aboard the Soyuz 30 spacecraft.
