In 2010, Misaki Matsutomo became a finalist in girls' singles at the BWF World Junior Championships. This was a major accomplishment for her, as she had been competing in the tournament since 2007. In the final, she lost to fellow Japanese player Akane Yamaguchi. This was a disappointing result for Matsutomo, but it did not deter her from continuing to pursue her dream of becoming a professional badminton player.
