The Mithridatic Wars were a series of wars fought between the Roman Republic and the Kingdom of Pontus, ruled by the Pontic kings Mithridates VI and Mithridates VII. The wars began in 88 BC and ended in 63 BC with the defeat of the Pontic kingdom by the Roman general Pompey. The wars were fought mainly in Asia Minor and were characterized by their brutality.
