Mossadegh's remains were not buried in any public cemetery because the Shah refused to allow it. Instead, they were interred in his family's garden in Ahmadabad, near Tehran. The grave is marked by a simple tombstone, which bears the inscription "Here lies the late Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh, the great patriot and leader of the Iranian nation."
