Murad V Sultan was born in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire, on August 21, 1840. He was the son of Sultan Abdülmecid I and his wife Valide Sultan Pertevniyal. Murad V ascended to the throne at the age of 16 after the death of his uncle, Sultan Abdulaziz. He was deposed by his brother, Sultan Abdulhamid II, in 1876 and died in exile in Salonica, Ottoman Empire, on August 29, 1904.
