Musa al-Kazim was an important figure in Shia Islam. He was the eighth Imam, or leader, of the Shia and was considered a martyr. He was imprisoned and killed in Baghdad in 799 CE. His death is seen as a key event in the history of Shia Islam and his tomb in Baghdad is a popular pilgrimage site.
