Maskawa was born in Nagoya, Japan, in 1940. He is a Japanese theoretical physicist and emeritus professor at Kyoto University. Maskawa is best known for his work on Theory of the fundamental forces of nature, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2008.
