Nur Muhammad Taraki was a journalist and writer. He worked for a number of newspapers and magazines, and he also wrote several books. Taraki was a supporter of the Afghan communist movement, and he was involved in the Saur Revolution, which brought the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan to power in 1978. Taraki became the first president of Afghanistan under the new regime, but he was assassinated in 1979.
