The Khalqists were considered the majority in the PDPA. They were a Marxist–Leninist faction of the party, and they were led by Nur Muhammad Taraki and Hafizullah Amin. The Khalqists were more radical than the Parchamists, and they were more committed to the goal of a communist revolution in Afghanistan. The Khalqists were also more likely to be influenced by the Soviet Union.
