Om Birla served in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for 11 years. He was elected to the Assembly in 2003 and served until 2014. During his tenure, he held various positions, including Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Leader of the Opposition. In 2019, he was elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament.
