Activist Óscar Arias is a Costa Rican politician, economist, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. He served as President of Costa Rica from 1986 to 1990 and again from 2006 to 2010. During his presidency, he implemented a number of peace initiatives, including the Arias Peace Plan, which helped to end the civil wars in El Salvador and Nicaragua. For his efforts, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987.
