Answer
Otto was inspired by Charlemagne for his coronation as Emperor because he wanted to be seen as a successor to the Carolingian dynasty. Charlemagne had been the first Holy Roman Emperor, and Otto wanted to continue his legacy. He also wanted to unify Germany and Italy, and he believed that being crowned Emperor would give him the authority to do so.
