Paul Lauterbur was born in May of 1929 in Sidney, Ohio. He was a physicist who is credited with co-developing the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique. MRI is a medical imaging technique that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. Lauterbur's work on MRI led to him receiving the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2003.
