Peter Debye obtained his PhD from the University of Berlin in 1908. He studied under Max Planck, who was one of the founders of quantum mechanics. Debye went on to make important contributions to the field of thermodynamics, and he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1936.
