Peter Medawar died on 2nd October 1987. He was a British zoologist and immunologist who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1960 for his work on acquired immune tolerance. Medawar's work helped to explain how the body can distinguish between its own cells and foreign cells, and how this distinction can be disrupted in diseases such as autoimmune disorders and cancer.
