Philip Berrigan was arrested multiple times in the 1960s and 1970s for his anti-war activism. He was one of the founders of the Catholic Peace Fellowship, which advocated for nonviolent protest against the Vietnam War. In 1968, he was arrested for burning draft records in Catonsville, Maryland. He was also arrested for participating in a peace vigil at the White House in 1971.
