Louis IX of France died during the Eighth Crusade in Tunis. The Crusade was launched in 1270 in an attempt to conquer Tunis, but Louis IX died of dysentery before the city could be taken. The Crusade was a failure and Louis IX's death was a major blow to the French monarchy.
