Philip more successfully asserted his kinghood in the northern Alps. He conquered Savoy, Geneva, and parts of Dauphiné, as well as other areas in what is now Switzerland, and established his rule over them. However, he was unable to conquer Burgundy, which was a major obstacle to his expansion into Italy.
