Philipp Scheidemann died in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 29 October 1939. He was a German politician and Social Democratic Party (SPD) member. He served as the first Chancellor of Germany from 9 November 1918 to 20 February 1919. Scheidemann was a strong supporter of the Weimar Republic, but he resigned from the government after the Spartacist uprising in January 1919. He died in Copenhagen in 1939 at the age of 77.
