Pope Anterus was the second Pope, reigning from 230 to 235 AD. His predecessor was Pope Pius I and he was succeeded by Pope Fabian. Anterus was born in Rome and was a deacon before his election as Pope. He is considered to have been a martyr, having been executed by the Roman Emperor Maximinus Thrax.
