Who among the following historians depicted incidents of tensions between Pilate and the Jewish population?

  • Plutarch

  • Josephus

  • Aristotle

  • Sophocles

Answer

Josephus, a Jewish historian, wrote of tensions between Pilate and the Jewish population in his book The Antiquities of the Jews. He wrote that Pilate ordered the execution of some Galileans who had been gathered in Jerusalem for Passover, and that he also brought standards bearing the emperor's image into Jerusalem, which the Jews considered to be idolatry. These actions led to riots, and Pilate eventually had the standards removed.
