Edward VIII and George VI were Prince George's siblings. They were all sons of George V and Queen Mary. Edward VIII was the eldest son and heir to the throne. He abdicated the throne in 1936 in order to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee. George VI was the second son and became king when Edward VIII abdicated. He reigned from 1936 to 1952.
