Russian composer Tikhon Khrennikov was born in Yelets, Russia, in 1913. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory and became one of the leading composers of the Soviet Union. His works include operas, ballets, symphonies, and film scores. Khrennikov was also a prominent figure in Soviet cultural politics, serving as the head of the Union of Soviet Composers from 1948 to 1991. He died in Moscow in 2007.
