Queen Mathilde's mother, Countess Anna Komorowska, is Polish. She was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1946. Her father, Prince Adam Karol Czartoryski, was a Polish aristocrat and diplomat. Her mother, Countess Maria Ludwika Krasińska, was a Polish countess. Anna Komorowska married King Albert II of Belgium in 1993 and became Queen Mathilde upon his accession to the throne in 1993.
