Mathilde was born in Uccle, Belgium, and is the daughter of Count Patrick d'Udekem d'Acoz and Countess Anne Marie Komorowska. She studied speech therapy and psychology at the Catholic University of Louvain and worked as a speech therapist before marrying Philippe in 1999.
