Answer
Qutuz was a Mamluk (slave) from the Turkic Kipchak tribe, who was brought to Egypt in the 13th century. He rose through the ranks of the Mamluk army and eventually became the sultan of Egypt. He led the Mamluks to victory over the Mongols at the Battle of Ain Jalut in 1260, which halted the Mongol advance into the Middle East.
