Rashid al-Din Hamadani died in 1318 during the reign of Öljaitü, the fifth Ilkhan of the Ilkhanate. He was a Persian scholar, historian, vizier, and physician. He was the author of the Jami' al-Tawarikh, a world history which is considered to be one of the most important works of Persian historiography.
